Twitter guide on how to build twitter backlinks
Hello,
My name is Matthew Boley, I am the owner and SEO specialist for http://www.affordableseo-services.com. If your interested in social media marketing services please visit our site.
I am writing today, to help those interested in Twitter backlink building, understand how to correctly build a Twitter backlink. Have you tweeted 1000's of times and only had 1 or 2 backlinks come up for your site from twitter? Have you used #keyword and still have no luck getting relevant keywords to register for Google or Bing? This article will show you what you have been doing wrong.
In case you are new to Twitter link building, I will go over a few definitions to help you better understand what I will be talking about below.
Definitions:
- Twitter NoFollow Link - Every time you tweet anything and add a link, Twitter puts a No Follow link next to it so that it doesn't get indexed on their front page. If you would like to test this so you can see for yourself do the following. First go to Twitter using Google Chrome, tweet something and add a link to your website. Second after you have created it and you see your link, right click the link and select inspect element. The code will be highlighted in blue, in the code you will see rel="nofollow" meaning that when a Google spider looks at your tweet, your website will be passed over and it won't be followed.
- Twitter Firehose - You can look at this as a gateway for search engines to view all twitter posts. When they view this gateway all links are Do-Follows instead of No-Follows.
- Twitter Keywords - When you use # and something next to it like this #SEO twitter registers this as a keyword.
So now that you have learned a few definitions we can dive a little deeper into the discussion.
While there is no 100% way to insure that you will get a backlink using any backlink method, the method I am about to tell you has been used by the best around the world.
The easiest backlink you can attain from Twitter is, the url you put in your profile. All profile links are DoFollow, meaning Google will register this eventually as a backlink.
Long ago twitter started to put nofollow links on everything you tweet which put a end to indexing regular tweets. However, Twitter gave all major search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and many more the ability to view what they call the Twitter Firehose.
The Firehose has all DOFOLLOW links which allows the search engines to use their own algorithm so they can choose who to index.
Google looks at your twitter page in many ways. Do you have more followed than followers? Are you tweets being retweeted or are they just tweeted by you? Most twitter accounts do have this and it is hurting their chances to get indexed by Bing and Google.
Here are some steps you should take.
1. Only follow those that are relevant to your twitter account. So if you are a SEO service then you should find other SEO services to follow.
2. Retweet relevant posts of people you follow.
3. If you have more followed than followers, delete those who aren't following you. You can google for free softwares that will easily show you who's not following you that you are following.
4. When you tweet about something do it like this. Example: If you want to learn about #SEO visit here " then put your website name in a http format.
These are 4 steps you should always follow. I have been asked "so why wouldn't I just look for a software that will allow me to make 100's of twitter accounts and re tweet all of my tweets". Well the answer is this, first twitter will catch you and your accounts will be deleted. Second this isn't going to help you, because it looks at the importance of the author. If the author re tweeting your articles doesn't have a good twitter account, meaning followed > following, then the importance is looked at poorly.
If you are a business and you have several employees working for you, then I suggest the following. Make an account for each employee, let them build up their own twitter account with followers. The owner/president or whoever is in charge should have the main url of the website in their profile. The next Twitter account should have /blog on their profile or something similar. Keep making your accounts for relevant sections of your website. Each person should have a part of the companies url in their profile. When the main person tweets about something every person in the business should retweet about this. This will show up as a nice relevant retweet, because it is about your business and you have several relevant people re tweeting about it. This will also help your chances for someone else to retweet your content as well since all of your employees will have their own followers.
I am not saying that a re tweet is 100% backlink, but it has been shown that a re tweet is a lot more likely to get indexed than a regular tweet.
